YOUTH JAM 2011 GRAFFITI COMPETITION

“EVERYDAY A SONY DAY”

DATE :4 June 2011 

TIME :3pm – 7pm 

EVENT :YOUTH JAM 2011

RULES & REGISTRATION 

Entries:  

Design of the graffiti artwork must portrayed a youthful lifestyle with Sony Walkman or cyber-shot. It must also show the excitement to reflect the carnival or festivity mood.

This competition is open to all boys and girls between 16 – 26 years of age living and studying or working in Malaysia.

To enter, participant must submit an A4 size sketch of design and a description of the concept and idea of not more than 250 words to

before 20 May 2011.

A preliminary selection will take place to shortlist 6 most promising design. Shortlisted candidates will be notified through email, sms or phone by 26 May 2011.

All the shortlisted candidates will be competing with the others shortlisted design on the spot on 4 June 2011 starting at 3.00pm and all candidates should stop working by 6.00pm sharp.

A 8ft(H) x 3ft(W) wooden plank will be erected standing on the ground for each shortlisted candidates to draw on. Every other materials are on the candidates own. Spray paint, used newspaper to cover the ground from paint, face mask and any other materials will not be provided. All candidates are advice to prepare all the materials needed on their own and bring them on that day.

All application after deadline will NOT be reviewed 

ONLY 6PERSON WILL BE SELECTED.

Upon reviewing, the best 6 design will be selected and announced through sms   

Judging:  

In the competition a selected team of panel of judges from the design and street arts industry will be invited judge all artworks in preliminary and final round.

This NookaNooka is called Blue Rooted because of its colour and the roots growing around its heart that depend on the clear blue skies, sun, earth and environment to live and be a truly happy NookaNooka. Blue Rooted is a happy and joyful NookaNooka that gets excited around a nice green environment, and gets very upset upon seeing it destroyed.

Thanks to Mike of Pipit for inviting me to this cool project. Nooka is the brainchild of artist and designer, Matthew Waldman. In 1997, Matthew had a flash-back to a first grade math class while staring at a large wall clock in a London hotel and was struck by how few options there were for time display. He then sketched his ideas for potential designs on a napkin and brought them back to New York. After working on the designs, he submitted them to his legal team, and indeed, they were unique enough to patent!

The linear and graphic representation of time with Nooka timepieces presents a more intuitive way to view time. The visual mass increases as time passes, giving weight to an ephemeral and abstract concept - creating a universal visual language.

Rather than just style the appearance of an object, Nooka’s reconceptualization is based on analytic and artistic underpinnings that incorporate trends in fashion and science. The approach is beyond any material product – it is a concept, a method, a mindstyleTM.

Boxies Won The Kre8tif Industry Awards

It has been great in 2009. Boxies has won the best character design under the digital arts category in Kre8tif Industry Awards. The best part is that the award was presented to me by Sue Erokan who is a supervisor character animation for Dreamworks of San Francisco. Other big names figure who are present at the awards night are John Stevenson the director of Kung-Fu Panda, David Abramowitz a veteran writer and producer of television and movies such as 21 Jumpstreet, V, Macgyver, Cagney And Lacey and Muder She Wrote all of which i have grown up with; also present is Eric Rollman president of Marvel Animation and Henry LaBounta chief visual officer of EA Sports and many others that u can find out at http://www.mscmalaysia.my/article/Kre8tif/Kre8tif+Speakers. It has been a great night and to the organising committee, you guys rocks! and you guys have proven to all the local creative people that it's really worth what they are doing all this time.
